Damn. What a name. I am half deaf. Completely deaf in my left ear. I remember years ago, I went Completely deaf for a week or so. I was terrified. I couldn't hear at all. I really need my right ear. Went to a nice ENT who diagnosed me with an infection. I got it from cleaning my ears with q tips. I wasn't able to hear again immediately but eventually. He also informed me of damage to my right ear and informed me on how to keep my ears healthy. Years later, I am very serious about my ear health.

I heard otolaryngology is a tricky subject in modern medicine. I know that because I had a bad ear infection my whole life called cholestatoma, which is a cyst or lump on the ear drum. So be thankful for otolaryngologists.

    Immunology please

Haven gotten to meet these specialists during childhood. I can only think highly of them. Performing surgery on possibly the smallest bones requires some good finger work

Great Video! Made me consider this for my specialisation…

  • Posted on Sep 01, 2021 at 14:31 pm

This is a great video and a perfect summation of the field. I would just add that while those mentioned fields used to be more competitive than ENT, in recent years, ENT has risen to be one of the most competitive fields. Dermatology, ENT, and direct path plastic surgery are the three fields that have gone back and forth as most competitive.

This can be seen with outcomes in % of applicants that did NOT match, research requirements, AOA/Gold Humanism %, overall medical school grades, and Step scores.

It is important to mention this in today’s medical climate since board score averages are rapidly becoming obsolete metrics for determining competitiveness since they are moving to a P/F system!

ENT had the highest percentage of individuals that did NOT match into residency b/c they did not apply to other specialities. This is very important for individuals who are applying to ENT residency to understand and prepare for!

My father is an ENT, with a specialty in Head and Neck (cancer and reconstruction). He always has complicated academic papers and charts lying everywhere. The surgeries are definitely long. When we watch TV, he always comments on people’s noses😂

  • Posted on Oct 05, 2021 at 12:12 pm

How about maxillofacial surgery for another episode, just as a neighbor / competitor subject to ENT

Thank you for such an informative video!

Would it be possible to make a video explaning the process and acceptance rate for IMGs? There is very limited information on how IMGs can excel in their application and what are the chances of them getting matched to residency programs.
